Just when you thought you had been to all the rooftop bars in NYC, a new one opens up where you least expected it….Chinatown!

Chinatown has been home to fireworks, knock off clothing, underground activity dens, and well….TOURISTS!

While the area is no stranger to nightlife, we are sure this roo

ftop will be a great addition to Chinatown

The Silkstone Rooftop

Urbandaddy says :

The Silkstone Rooftop, a secret rooftop garden open now for the stream of open-air dates and anything-goes private parties you usually refer to as August.

To access the roof, you’ll have to look for a single light burning above a black metal door. Identify yourself, and a kindly butler will show you into a dark hallway, through a bustling kitchen and into an elevator bound for the sky. And then…

Arriving on the seventh floor is like stepping into a postcard of unobstructed views and flickering candlelight, where you’ll host the kind of date that will likely crack your all-time top five (right after the great Niagara Falls sashimi incident of ’08), or else entertain friends around a communal table with an herb garden growing in the center. (Should your pasta require more basil, just grab some.)

And if you’re less interested in dining at altitude and more interested in alfresco fetes, the roof can also accommodate movie screenings, Arabian rug-festooned hookah parties, co-ed naked Twister tournaments, karaoke marathons and the kind of photo shoots that will get your account blacklisted by Facebook.

See you on Orchard and Canal…

Sankeys will attempt to bring back the electronic music crowd, which left NYC years ago.

There are many venues in NYC that no matter what the name changes to…it’s just not the same and NY’ers won’t accept it.

One such place is good old Irving Plaze, as it has seen it’s share of shows, performances, dj battles, and other parts of NYC nightlife.

Over 3 years ago Live Nation took over the venue and called it The Filmore, but most NY’ers have never even used the new name. Now Live Nation is returning the name and reapplying the original marquee sign bearing the Irving Plaza name. Thank goodness…now if they can only bring back the Palladium…the club..not the dorm.

Ever go to a place and worry about getting in?? Neither do we…but here are the five hardest places to get into according to Eater:

1. The Jane Ballroom: Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so it’s with great pleasure that we put the Jane at the top of the list. The back story is so well known by now that there is no need to delve into all of the details, so let’s deal with the present. The Jane reopened this week with a new and improved operating policy, meaning that if you haven’t been invited, you simply aren’t getting in. Don’t try buying a bottle either – they don’t sell them.
Who you need to know: Eric Goode, Sean MacPherson, Matt Kliegman, Carlos Quirarte
Civilian Chance of Entry: 0%
113 Jane St., West Village.

This way to the rest of the list . . .

2. The Boom Boom Room: For the first time since it’s opening, Le Room de Boom has been bounced from the top spot on the list. While the door has not gotten much easier, there seems to be a growing sense of disillusion with the Boom. The most common complaints are with the music, the prices, and the design, all of which make an evening at the swankiest lounge in New York kind of dull. But we have heard that Andre Balazs has been reaching out to some high profile nightlife pros to get involved at the Boom, and also will be opening the Black Room full time in the fall.
Who you need to know: Andre Balazs, Kamil Parchomienko
Civilian Chance of Entry: 2%
848 Washington St., MePa.

3. Provocateur: Mike Satsky and Brian Gefter’s new venue in the Gansevoort Hotel may have been designed with a female sensibility, but the door certainly isn’t female friendly. Provocateur makes the leap into the third spot off their reputation for denying entire groups based off the appearance of the a member of said party, such as a birthday girl who’s party was apparently canceled at the door because Gefter “didn’t like the ‘short fat one in my group’.”; Ouch. This kind of policy may get gain points for the Door Report, but sure hurts building a customer base for the long run.
Who you need to know: Mike Satsky, Brian Gefter, Kyky, Dimitri
Civilian Chance of Entry: 18%
18 9th Avenue, MePa.

4. Simyone Lounge: The Jane’s return and Provocateur’s policies bumps the subterranean lounge beneath Abe and Arthur’s down two notches. Owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum are running a smooth ship in the tiny space, but with a Hamptons outpost just weeks away and an Abe and Arthur’s expansion on the horizon, some slippage is possible. We’ll be sending the quality control team on regular visits.
Who you need to know: Eugene Remm, Mark Birnbaum, Aalex Julian
Civilian Chance of Entry: 21%
409 W 14th St., MePa.

5. Avenue: The Strategic Group’s gastro lounge holds firm at #5 and is still New York’s premiere bottle buying destination. Over the past several months, Avenue has weathered a perfect storm of unwanted publicity, the arrest of a doorman, and the smoking crackdown, managing to keep things exclusive. But with Lavo under construction and the possible loss of its Beatrice friendly Tuesdays and Thursdays to other venues, might we see some slippage in the near future? Possibly, but for now, Avenue stays on the list.
Who you need to know: Noah Tepperberg, Jason Strauss, Wass Stevens, The Beatrice Crew
Civilian Chance of Entry: 60%
116 Tenth Ave., Chelsea

Runners Up: Rose Bar, 1OAK, GoldBar, Cabin
Future Contenders: Le Baron, Black Bar at the Standard, Nell’s, Butter II

Deciding whether to check out a new bar is a dilemma of Seinfeld-ian proportions: If you stick to your favorite haunt it will be good, but it’ll be the same. But if you go someplace else, it will be different, but it might not be as good. It’s a gamble. Well get ready to roll the dice because we’ve scoured the city for the best new bars popping up just in time for summer. Cheers!

Best Born-Again Bar: 200
Having closed the space for two years to fight for permits, the owners of 200 Orchard could have easily reopened their wannabe lounge in its former capacity, and would have quickly learned that the days of red leather banquettes and fog machines are coming to an end. Instead, they went the opposite route, stripping down the walls to reveal the weathered brick beneath and converting the old dance floor into a private beer-hall. The result—a warm, low-key space filled with friendly Irish bartenders who will just as happily shake you up a fiery jalapeno-infused margarita as pour you a proper pint of Guinness. This is one make-under worth admiring!

Best Basement Bar: Janis
Hanging out in a friend’s basement was a rite of passage for any teen growing up in suburbia. It was the scene of most of our milestones—the first game of spin the bottle, the first clandestine sip of alcohol, the first make out session we prayed our parents wouldn’t walk in on. For most of us, the days of the basement party have ended…or so we thought. Enter Janis, the new underground lounge from the folks at the West Village eatery De Santos. A cozy, unrefined hideaway, Janis has quickly become a go-to spot where the fashionable arrive fashionably late to get a little dirty on the dance floor. Go on, take a trip down memory lane…we won’t judge you for making-out in the corner.

Best New College Bar for the Unenrolled: West 3rd Common
There’s a time and a place for Down the Hatch and Off the Wagon-style revelry, but if that time has passed and you’re still around NYU, the place to be is West 3rd Common. From the owners of the low-key East Village favorite Common Ground, West 3rd Common is twice the size, with high ceilings and crystal chandeliers that elevate it way beyond your typical sports bar. A solid happy hour pretty much guarantees you’ll be challenging your neighbors to one of their many board games, but no one’s complaining…who doesn’t love a game of drunken Jenga?
1 W. 3rd St. (@ Broadway), NoHo, 212.529.2059

Best New Hidden Bar: Cienfuegos
The bartenders are spiking the punch over at this new clandestine haunt, and thankfully there are no prom chaperones to stop them. Offering twenty-four different rum-infused cocktails, in four different sizes might we add, this Havana-themed lounge is as upbeat and as low-key as they come. It’s the sexiest date locale since the owner’s first hot-spot Death & Co, but it’s even more fun with a group of friends and a $100 punch bowl, so drink up, me hearties yo-ho!
443 E 6th St. (1st & Ave A), East Village, 212.614.6818

Best New Hotel Lounge: Polar at the Hotel Marcel
There are the depressing, smoke-filled hotel lounges you stumble into during a work conference in the middle of nowhere, and then there are hotel lounges in Manhattan that are the polar opposite. This swanky new spot within the Marcel Hotel, has been drawing an elite crowd of celebrities like Alicia Keys—without becoming overly pretentious, an impressive feat in the NYC nightlife world. To the point, rather than traditional bottle service, groups can reserve a private “Polar Cave” and be treated to pitchers of specialty cocktails for only $85. Sounds to us like the perfect way to “chill” with some friends, pun completely intended.

Best New Reason to go to Brooklyn Bar: The Counting Room
One thing you can always count on is Manhattanites griping about making the trek to Brooklyn, even though the ride to Williamsburg is faster than say, a journey from Midtown East to the LES. But reluctant borough hoppers rest assured, The Counting Room is worth the marginal effort it takes to get there. One part open-air wine bar, one part industrial cocktail lounge, and both parts decorated in sleek reclaimed wood, it’s not your typical W-Burg dive. And with drink prices coming in around $8-$10 a pop, you’ll feel like you never left Manhattan.
44 Berry Street (@ N 11th), Williamsburg, 718.599.1860

Best New Roof Deck Bar: Press Lounge @ the Ink48 Hotel
Let’s be honest, us New Yorkers can get a little lazy, so when someone tells us there’s a new rooftop bar on 11th Avenue, we usually respond with a non-committal, “I get plenty of sun through my apartment windows.” Of course, Press also has 360 degree views of Manhattan, comfy lounge chairs, a long narrow reflecting pool perfect for tanning beside (and being tempted to jump into), and a list of signature cocktails to please even the most selective drinker. But we’re sure you can get all that at your apartment as well.
635 11th Ave. (@ 48th St. ), Hell’s Kitchen, 212.757.2224

Best New Wine Bar: Vyne Bar
These days, it’s pretty much impossible to walk two blocks without discovering a new wine bar…except near NYU where fratty dives remain the norm. Enter Vyne bar, an elegant space right in the thick of Greenwich Village, which caters to a crowd that actually appreciates the lulled jazz beats permeating from Zinc, the bar below. The requisite wine list is large and affordable, but their specialty cocktails are the stand-out (Dark ‘n’ Stormys make the menu just in time for summer woo-hoo)! Thanks to Vyne, a calm night in Greenwich Village is no longer an oxymoron.

Well all good things come to an end…sometimes bad things too. Not to be mistaken for the wonderful nightlife icon Carbon->Exit space in the west side of New York City, Club Exit in Brooklyn was an OK party.

We have seen a few dj’s/models/overly hairgeled juice heads/and all the other goodies that come to mind when thinking of NYC nightlife at Club Exit the few times we did go, but like any other nyc nightlife venue – the violence is causing the place to be shut down.

No matter what people say about the nightlife scene in Brooklyn, we here at ilivenighlife commend club Exit for being open 15 years and having an impact in the Brooklyn scene.

Well it looks like Greenhouse – the SOHO nightclub has been hit with it’s 3rd lawsuit for it’s alleged racist door policy against African American and Latin people.

The NYC nightlife venue owned by Jon Bakshi and others, has seen legal action previously when two individuals were removed from the club while they were attending a book party for author Teri Woods. Then in October 2009 four individuals were denied entry into the venue and also filed suit.

Although it is sad for something like this to happen at a time like this, and we cannot speculate on the event in question…we will say that we have been to Greenhouse in the past and have NOT noted the exclusion of anyone based on race. We have actually noted a very mixed crowd in nyc nightclub and have even seen many events with a predominantly African American or Latin clientele.

Perhaps there are other factors at play and we do not know the entire story yet, but again it is not our job to decide what happened….it’s the job of the commenting public of the NYPost

Our take? Well…we are just sad that the Saturday night after-hours party is no longer happening, and will be reporting the unfolding of this event.

Well the name change of Pink Elephant to Pink and Room Service to Pink Elephant made me want to see it again…

Well known in New York City as a mecca for dance music; big dj’s, and all around some of the best partying in the big apple, apparently has some legal issues among it’s five owners, according to clubplanet.

The new changed name of the club is just “Pink”, as it seems the now sole owner, Joey Morrissey has the location but not the name, which rests with David Sarner and Bobby Montwaid who are taking over Room Service(which used to be 9 1/2) and changing it’s name to Pink Elephant….what?

All in all there is sure to be some confusion and some “no dude I’m at the other Pink Elephant” in the near future.

The venue that brought us many a summer time mojito; and that oh so wonderful “$7 sushi” menu during happy hour a year or so ago, has been gone for some time but not forgotten. Frequented by locals, fashionistas, and Europe, it is now being replaced by Provocateur.

Behind the new place are two individuals well know in New York City nightlife – Michael Satsky and Brian Gefter – better known as the team behind the old Stereo club on 29th street. Given the individuals behind the venue, expect the place to be full of models and the bankers that come with them….or is it the other way around?

The venue was expected to be open by the end of November December, but details of a New Year’s Eve bash are unknown. Since it was a very outdoor friendly location…it may sadly be closed until the weather improves.

According to Urban Daddy a soft open is occurring at the moment. No worries…there’s always The Standard hotel in the meantime to keep us in the meatpacking district for now.
